University of Alberta - Faculty of Extension About

In 1912, the University of Alberta was a young institution under the Presidency of Henry Marshall Tory, who charged his protégé, a young A.E. Ottewell, with the task of “bringing the University to the people.” What once was traveling libraries, “magic lantern” shows, and free public lectures in far-flung rural Alberta is today a multi-faceted, research-driven agent of community engagement, locally, nationally, and internationally.

Education

Our graduate programs are designed for working professionals and are open for admission to domestic and international students.

Research

Research at the Faculty of Extension is driven by the mandate of "uplifting the whole people to inspire the human spirit for the public good." As a faculty of interdisciplinary scholars, our research strengths are broad, encompassing early childhood education, communication and technology, urban planning and sustainable development, language, and globalization, to name a few.

Students admitted to a program have access to:

Complimentary resources on how to write a resume and cover letter.
Advising services, including one-on-one appointments with an advisor to discuss tactics. Extension students pay the "student" rate.
